Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in influence within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of characters who will separate from the main group to undertake their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the party understands precisely where to head next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise started the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The traitor then settled his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, above the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as important members in the influential clan could enable the group access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.

This results in them no alternative but to head to Timmony in quest for the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

According to episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Seekers and Schemers groups.

Fans can look forward to learning which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
