Eric Adams to Endorse Andrew Cuomo in NYC Mayor's Election

NYC's current mayor Mayor Adams has announced his decision to endorse former Governor Cuomo in the upcoming election for mayor, even after an extended period of disagreements between the pair of Democrats.

A Surprising Reversal After Recent Criticism

Just last month, Adams had publicly condemned the former governor, labeling him a “snake and a untruthful person” and alleging of having “a career of marginalizing Black political contenders.” However, in a recent development, Adams reversed course, revealing he now plans to appear with Cuomo in neighborhoods where he maintains significant backing.

“It is crucial to energize the communities of color that have experienced gentrification on how vital this race is,” Adams stated.

He added, “They have watched their rents increase due to gentrification and they have been overlooked in those areas, and I plan to visit to those neighborhoods and talk directly with community leaders and organizations and I’m going to walk with the governor in those neighborhoods and get them motivated.”

Race Dynamics and Recent Events

The election battle has so far been dominated by the competition between Cuomo and democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani, whose growing support has attracted attention globally and represented hopes for a rejuvenated leftwing of the Democratic party.

In a latest candidate forum, both Mamdani and GOP candidate Curtis Sliwa stated they would decline Adams’s endorsement if extended.

Earlier this year, the mayor had launched his re-election campaign as an independent after facing federal corruption charges which were later dropped in exchange for Adams’s cooperation with federal immigration raids across the city.

During a separate media briefing on the same day, Adams responded to reporters inquiring into the support announcement by stating, “I'm meeting Andrew later today.”

The announcement came a day after Adams and Cuomo were spotted sitting courtside together at the New York Knicks’ first game at Madison Square Garden, which took place immediately following a heated candidate debate.
