Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
