The artist has given the full amount of his £25k award prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which works to save the Britain's independent concert spaces.

Fender was presented with the cheque on 16 October as his third album his work was chosen as the best record of the last 12 months.

He has opted to donate the funds to the MVT, in recognition of the crucial part grassroots venues fulfilled in his early career.

"I personally wouldn't be doing my current career if it hadn't been for all the gigs I performed around the area, and further afield, when I was just getting going," said the artist. "These venues are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these locations have shut down – approximately 16% of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, major artists such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by including a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which supports independent venues.

Fender also joined in, generating over £100k on his live tour to help numerous grassroots venues across the UK.

These funds supported spaces that were facing possible closure due to issues arising from flooding, blazes and bereavements, as well as permit problems, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Other venues were granted funding support in upgrading infrastructure and gear that directly benefitted artists and concertgoers.

"The notion that revenue from concerts in major spaces supports the smaller venues, where it all starts for artists like me, is just common sense," Fender has stated.

In 2002, musician she split her prize across a few good causes, like the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also contributed a grand to the center, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked updated gear," the artist told the media.

Previously, the band contributed their prize money to the community center that nurtured their band, as well as other local music groups.

Also 1994 winners the group contributed their winnings to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was found to have the condition.

"Receiving the award was ample," said singer Small. "The prize was the cherry on top but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the honor. So our success touched the lives of others."

Recently, the Music Venues Trust shared it had protected a couple of small stages in the South East, by placing them under local control.

The first in the city and the second in Bristol were bought under the community ownership scheme, which is funded by the arts council and music fans who buy "stakes" in the buildings.
