Seamer Atkinson Compounds England's Injury Worries.

'Significant concern' for the touring side after Atkinson leaves the field suffering a hamstring problem.

The pace bowler increased the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the playing area on the second morning of the Boxing Day Test versus the Australians.

Atkinson felt a problem in his hamstring post-delivery in his spell during the morning session.

The England team reported the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and required time away from the action for further assessment "in the coming hours".

The concluding match of the tour in Sydney begins at the end of the week.

The visitors have already lost strike bowlers one seamer due to knee trouble and another paceman to a side strain on the current trip.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party as injury reinforcement.

The seamer had a tough time during the first two matches, managing only three wickets.

He was omitted from the previous Test, only to be brought back for the Melbourne Test to fill the void.

Surrey's Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, taking two wickets with the ball, and scoring 28 runs while batting as one of just three England players who passed ten runs.

Post a single over at the end of day one, he came back the next day and dismissed the nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

Unfortunately, on the final ball of that over, he sent down a slower ball to the batsman and suddenly grabbed at his leg.

Gus Atkinson returned to the side for the Boxing Day Test after being left out of the third.
