The former Liverpool manager says coming back to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Anfield in 2024, remarked that a future comeback remains a possibility. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing nine-year spell that included continental glory and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, now holds positions overseeing worldwide football with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
They secured the league title last season, but many fans holding him in high esteem would welcome the possibility that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he told Steven Bartlett: “I stated I will never coach another team in England. So that means should it be the Reds...yes. In theory, it could happen.”
“I’m 58, which suggests I could make the decision in a few years, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding which situations would have to unfold to bring him back to the touchline, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “I'm not entirely sure, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “No longing for management; I don’t miss standing under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; I don’t miss going to media briefings repeatedly each week or constant media duties weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed in that context, however, dining out alongside the squad having a nice chat, I appreciate that. Success was frequent thus frequently a very good mood around the place. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly of the current boss, crediting him for the tweaks that won the league in the previous season. They've been defeated four consecutive matches across various tournaments post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the suggestion it could be a slump.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. An outstanding player. Ekitike, excellent performer. It’s a really good well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of Jota, whom he brought in during his tenure, and its impact at the club. The forward died tragically in a car crash together with his sibling in July.
“Who can fill the void of such an individual? This isn't just regarding the player himself, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the team environment without him in it. I still cannot speak properly about it. A devastating blow for his teammates as well. Not a single person would cite it to justify results yet it's the reality. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Coping with it individually is difficult. Impossible.”
