The Gory Animated Film Conclusion That Stays With Fans
Among every mature animated films I’ve personally watched, nothing has lingered in my mind as much as the fear-filled finale of a viscerally violent as well as highly provocative film from 2022 The Unicorn Wars.
In the year 2015, the Spanish writer-director developed a grim, melancholy , frequently brutal universe with several minor , desolate twinges of hope.
While Unicorn Wars feels like it stemmed from a drive to advance the medium further, the director explained that it was actually an attempt to express a widespread, multicultural theme concerning “the mutual source of all wars.”
This theme is expressed via a squad of vividly colored bears , obviously inspired by a famous line of lovable characters.
Growing up in a culture centered on militarism and the war machine, a lot of the bears are fixated on exterminating unicorns, because of a sacred text which states the bears they were once masters of the forest, until the horned beings forced them out.
A few did not entirely bought into the indoctrination, and would rather experiment with drugs or mate in the forest.
Unlike their gentle equivalents, these bright beings show sexual organs and obvious libidos.
For a particular particularly cruel, pessimistic creature, the bear named Bluey, the conflict with the unicorns becomes a route to control — and specifically to authority above his more tender, kinder brother the bear Tubby.
This bear acts as a tormentor and an apparent antisocial figure , and when horror takes over his squad and claims his fellow soldiers sequentially, he seizes increasingly influence for himself, via progressively violent, destructive ways.
Simultaneously, the horned creatures are experiencing their own nightmare, through an expanding, destructive monster in their woods.
“In the early stages, it feels like a humorous movie,” the director said. “Yet it turns into a more dramatic and melancholic movie. And in the finale, it transforms into a terrifying movie.”
Unicorn Wars commences similar to among the playful films from a legendary animator, that discover a naughty glee in permitting drawn beings swear, engage in violence, or engage sexually.
Afterward it evolves into closer to a darker work by that same artist, with increasingly graphic violence and a tangible link to the real horror of conflict.
By the end, it becomes a full-on extreme drama carnage.
The terror that makes this a perfect Halloween watch kicks in well before than one might expect.
The Unicorn Wars is ideal for the most dedicated fans of gore, for fans of graphic films who wish to watch something they haven’t ever watched previously, and can endure a story which delivers absolutely no punches.
View it with the lights off free from interruptions, and the conclusion will dig into your mind and linger.
