The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, the game developers launched a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features a few notable adjustments:
- Every squad has only 8 human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
In short, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides additional choices for gamers looking for different methods to have fun with the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are mad.
Player Responses: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while another details everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback
All that said, there are valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove XP farming from the system. So this new playlist feels like the community compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
