The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track
The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated series from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It features our favorite group of outcasts, outcasts, and rogues kicking ass and making their mark, while teasing at several heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
All in all, the opening looks stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was lost in the music selection.
This sequence uses "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song created by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece from the soundtrack album of that title, the second one put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a great nostalgic option, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its presence.
But for me, The series' intro fails to capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when cast member the performer wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.
Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the song was catchy and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series at that point, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my device. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.
The show's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but from what I know of the group, I can't help but feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, Critical Role has already said that the series will have some surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its intro appears as among these.
This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to learn about the characters of the second series, the actual play are available on the audio platform and the video site.
