The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.

It might not have been at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”

The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The pig, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “6-7” – inspired by a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Peaceful Retirement

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
