The President Welcomes Families of Attacked National Guard Soldiers to the White House

Former President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has asked the family of a Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the White House.

He added that he spoke to her family and they were “devastated”.

Background on the Tragic Shooting

Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a violent incident on Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.

Memorials across West Virginia have occurred in their remembrance.

Presidential Invitation

The commander-in-chief stated he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the parents of both individuals of the state National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump told reporters. “And similarly with Andrew, recover or not.”

Community Reaction

Attendees gathered over the weekend at the high school in the state to pay respects to Sarah.

Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of the president’s federal initiative to support policing efforts in DC.

Honoring Beckstrom

“She was the kind of student that educators desired. She carried herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the media. “She was kind, caring and always eager to assist people.”

Memorial plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.

Legal Actions and Policy Changes

Authorities have indicted a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of first-degree murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while armed.

The tragedy caused the government to halt asylum processing and halt issuing entry permits to owners of travel documents.

Condition of the Airman

The airman, a resident of the city, started his military career in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, per the Associated Press.

He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader Morrisey stated on a news program.

The state’s top lawyer the attorney general informed a news show that she aimed to speak to the family.

Impact of the Fallen Soldier

Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with distinction, as stated by the state guard.

“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had bravery,” Morrisey informed the audience at the vigil. “Though her life was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
