The Showrunner Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... For Now.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would become a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

Now that Season 1 of the popular sci-fi show reaching its finale—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the viewer reception and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Overwhelming Fan Response

One could easily to get distracted by the rampant praise and audience predictions surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like force fed something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's on purpose. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever want to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

A Pressing Query: Will the showrunner Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Given that the creative staff aren't taking cues by audience theories, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… in a way.

“We have some interesting ideas about where the show might end up,” he states. “yet we stand ready to abandon a solid concept for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and the characters are inside it,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, why not reference the classics?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV.
